Arts Assistant

This post holder will be required to provide teaching and administrative support for the Arts Department. Under guidance from the Arts Coordinator and class teachers the post holder will be expected to work with individual students and small groups within the classroom. The post holder will be expected to provide cover for planned and unplanned short term teacher absences.

Responsibilities

Classroom Activities
  • Assist teachers in the classroom as required. In particular:
    • Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the Arts Coordinator and class teachers.
    • Assist the Arts Coordinator and class teachers in the planning of work programmes for individuals and groups of students and developing extended activities. Help monitor their progress.
    • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities; support students with specific learning needs and help develop their social skills
    • Undertake planned and unplanned cover in the short-term absence of teachers in all curriculum areas.
Admin/Organizational Activities
  • Support teachers in preparation and production of classroom materials
  • Ensure that all departmental materials and equipment are in good, safe working order and stored safely and securely
  • Assist with the organisation of the school exhibition of major arts work (such as Annual Arts Exhibition) for including the layout and installation of the exhibits, preparation of the programme and assistance to the staff at the event.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for the Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Hari Raya and Christmas Assemblies and for International Day.
  • Assist teachers with maintaining student records
  • Undertake normal office administration tasks; filing, photocopying etc
  • Prepare and present displays of students’ work both in the classroom and surrounding areas
Other Duties
  • To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.
  • To understand and comply with all other relevant school policies.
  • To carry out the duties and responsibilities as and when required by the Arts Coordinator

Job Specifications

  • Degree, Diploma or other recognised professional qualification in a relevant area.
  • At least 2-3 year(s) of working experience in the related field. Previous working experience in a school would be a definite advantage
  • Previous working experience in a school would be an added advantage.
  • A sound knowledge and interest in Arts.
  • A basic knowledge of policy and issues surrounding education.
  • Possess good command of spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Good computer skills especially in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power-Point)
  • Possess good organisation, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A keen learner and team player with positive working attitude.
  • Able to work independently and multi-tasking

Whole School 


Shadow Teacher

The Shadow Teacher will work with teachers to support student(s) who require for special needs assistance. This support may include behaviour management, curriculum implementation, social skills development, personal care and physical assistance

Responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with classroom teachers and other school staff to support student learning
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher to plan, deliver and assess teaching programs
  • Preparing learning materials
  • Encouraging student to be confident and independent
  • Helping student understand instructions
  • Carrying out a child’s care plan (education, social, behaviour and personal)
  • Encouraging student to communicate
  • Giving information and help to teachers
  • Supporting student during social activities and outings
  • Helping student during therapy sessions
  • Recognising when student is upset and comforting him/her
  • Looking after student’s physical needs
  • Keeping records

Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in special needs education, nursery nursing, teaching assistance, childcare or play work.
  • At least 2-3 year(s) of working experience in the similar field. Previous work experience in a Special Educational Needs setting would be a definite advantage.
  • Good ICT skills and willingness to use/train in new technologies.
  • Strong communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Be a patient and positive role model for children.
