Bahasa Malaysia Teacher

Job Purpose

To plan, create, and provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences reflective of the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile. The purpose of which is to instill in students the desire to become lifelong learners, to be prepared to successfully complete the designated IB internal and external assessments and to successfully transition to a competitive selective postsecondary educational setting.

Key Results Areas / Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Teach classes according to the curriculum guidelines
  • Prepare a yearly scheme of work as well as termly and weekly plans for the classes to be
  • taught
  • Work in conjunction with colleagues to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to learning
  • Design appropriate learning strategies to deliver the curriculum
  • Supervise, and where possible instruct, students in extra classroom activities such as
  • sports and games, trips and clubs
  • Participate in regular duties outside lesson times
  • Set and mark class work/homework according to the schedule
  • Offer all students equal opportunities to learn and maintain an environment in which no
  • student is exposed to discriminatory behavior
  • Undertake tasks associated with the ongoing development of the school’s curriculum.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to the development of critical and creative
  • learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Student
  • Handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials,
  • and facilities.
  • Maintain the safety of all students at all times within the school environment, preparing risk
  • assessments where necessary
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials

Student Growth and Development

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
  • Help students develop the skills in the IB Learner Profile
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal
  • assessment.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job related skills
  • Communication
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with students,
  • parents, teachers and principal
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community
  • members.

Administrative Activities

  • Participate in staff meetings, training days, parent-teacher conference and school functions
  • according to the published schedule
  • Provide cover as and when required by line manager
  • Keep records of student progress, and write reports as when required
  • Use effective communications skills to present information accurately and clearly


  • Undertake any other reasonable requests made by line manager

Job Specifications

  • Experienced in subject planning and preparing teaching modules would be an
  • added advantage.
  • Possess a Degree in Bahasa Malaysia or Literature or equivalent
  • Full qualified teacher status
  • Experience in international education preferably in IB Programmes
  • Knowledge of subject(s) to which assigned
  • Knowledge of IB Learner Profile
  • Knowledge of accelerated/advanced curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
  • Ability to communicate with parents before and after school hours
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adjust and be flexible to a multitude of situations in the school environment
  • Ability to coordinate online assessments including sending electronic portfolio assessments
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of personnel
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Act as a positive role model for students
  • A keen learner and team player with positive working attitude
  • Demonstrate ability to work both independently and as a team leader
  • Able to work independently and multi-tasking


Shadow Teacher

Shadow Teacher works with teachers to support student(s) with special needs. This support may include behaviour management, curriculum implementation, social skills development, personal care and physical assistance


  • Working collaboratively with classroom teachers and other school staff to support student learning
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher to plan, deliver and assess teaching programs
  • Preparing learning materials
  • Encouraging children to be confident and independent
  • Helping children understand instructions
  • Carrying out a child’s care plan (education, social, behaviour and personal)
  • Encouraging children to communicate
  • Giving information and help to teachers
  • Supporting children during social activities and outings
  • Helping children during therapy sessions
  • Recognising when children are upset and comforting them
  • Looking after children’s physical needs
  • Keeping records


  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in special needs education, nursery nursing, teaching assistance, childcare or play work
  • At least 2-3 year(s) of working experience in the similar field. Previous work experience in a Special Educational Needs setting would be a definite advantage
  • Good ICT skills and willingness to use/train in new technologies
  • Strong communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia
  • Be a patient and positive role model for children

Secondary Learning Support Teacher


Secondary Learning Support teacher needed for the 2017/18 school year.
