The IB Career-related Programme

IGBIS is fully authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (CP). The CP is an innovative education framework for students aged 16 to 19. This is the newest and fastest-growing IB programme. The CP provides students with an excellent foundation to support their further studies, as well as ensure their preparedness for success in the workforce. The CP combines highly regarded and internationally recognised IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses with an approved career-related study and a unique CP score.

CP students engage with a rigorous study programme that genuinely interests them while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement. They are well prepared to succeed at institutions of higher learning.

The CP framework is built around three interconnected elements:

  • at least two DP courses
  • a CP core that includes approaches to learning, community and service, language development and a reflective project
  • an approved career-related study (Business and Accountancy)

The CP Framework

Diploma Programme Courses

DP courses are the academic cornerstone of the CP. Each student completes two or more DP courses that may be selected from any DP subject area. Course selection is tailored to complement a student’s individual career-related study.

The CP core

The CP core bridges the IB academic courses and the career-related study. Four interrelated components form the core: Approaches to learning develops students’ critical thinking, intercultural understanding, communication, and personal development. It aims to challenge students to draw on personal resources and skills to engage critically with the world around them. Community and service is based on the principle of service learning whereby community service is a vehicle for new learning that has academic value. It provides students with opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge in real-life situations. Language development is designed to ensure that all students have access to, and are exposed to, a language programme that will assist and further their understanding of the wider world. It aims to provide students with the necessary skills and intercultural understanding to enable them to communicate in an environment where the language studied is spoken. The Reflective project is an in-depth body of work produced over an extended period and submitted towards the end of the course. It is the product of the student’s own initiative and is designed to draw together key elements of a student’s wider scheme of study. The reflective project requires students to identify, analyse, critically discuss and evaluate an ethical issue stemming from their career-related studies.

Approved career-related study

Partnering with the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales (ICAEW) as their Career-related study, IGBIS offers ICAEW’s Certificate in Finance, Accountancy and Business (CFAB).  ICAEW is a world leading professional membership organisation that promotes, develops and supports approximately 150,000 chartered accountants worldwide. The ICAEW Chartered Accountant qualification, the ACA, is one of the most advanced learning and professional development programmes available. It is valued around the world in business, both in private practice and the public sector.  To become a fully chartered accountant with ICAEW, students and graduates must complete six modules each at Certificate, Professional and Advanced levels.  The six modules are: Business and Finance, Management Information, Law, Assurance, Principles of Tax, and Accounting.

ICAEW’s partnership with the IB was borne out of a desire to welcome principled, knowledgeable practitioners into the world of business and commerce, to have graduates join the workforce with the skills and attributes of an IB student, developed through the educational programmes and via the IB learner profile.

There are a number of certificates that students earn during the course of their study, including:

  • Business Award
  • DP subject certificates
  • IBCP
  • IGBIS High School Diploma
