By Simon Millward
The weeks are getting busier as we near the end of the academic year. What is evident is that our students are amazing and they never cease to amaze us with their progress and development. An added bonus is that the students love coming to school and are always willing to share their learning.
Our Grade 4 students shared their unit of inquiry, maths and personal inquiries with the IGBIS community as part of their assembly this week. It was wonderful to see the confidence the students possessed as they shared their learning. I would like to make special mention to our ESOL students who showed their risk-taking abilities by sharing so clearly and confidently in English.
Here is a selection of some of the personal inquiries.
Emmenuelle sang for us. Evan shared the game he created. Mire shared her origami art.
ZY shared his comic creation. Arthi and Chloe shared their crocheting journey.
They also shared two of their units of inquiry, their ‘How we Organise Ourselves’ trade unit and their ‘Who We Are’ Children's rights units.
Trade: In this unit, students created their own companies and had to advertise and sell their products.
Children’s rights: The students shared their speeches with us. They truly demonstrated how much they care about others as well as themselves, and we are proud of that.
Some of the students shared their methods of solving mathematical problems as well.
On Friday, 10 May 2024 we had our annual Elementary Sports Day. The objective was to work together as house teams and have as much fun as possible whilst competing against other house teams. The children had a fabulous time, it was wonderful to have some of our parents as well come along and support the children.
Our Grade 3 - Grade 5 students spent much of their time on the field whilst our younger learners Fireflies to Grade 2 were in the sports hall.
I am sure you will agree from the pictures the students were having a great time.
FirstPoint USA at IGBIS: Sports Trials and Information Sessions
What a week it has been at IGBIS! From 06 May to 10 May 2024, our school was buzzing with excitement as we welcomed FirstPoint USA representatives for a series of football and rugby trials, along with insightful presentations on sports scholarships.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the schools and students across Malaysia who joined this fantastic opportunity. At IGBIS, we prioritise nurturing talent and facilitating growth for students dedicated to sports alongside our rigorous academics.

Preparation for MRISA
IGBIS’s debut in the MRISA conference will take place in late October/early November of 2024. Sports for this first season are MS (Grade 6-8) basketball and HS (Grade 9-12) volleyball. These tournaments will take place in late October/early November. To prepare for these tournaments, we held our MRISA Team Try-outs this week in the sports hall. What a turnout! The pic above is of the HS volleyball teams. The teams will not be selected until after the summer, but our student-athletes are enthusiastically taking part in the training sessions now to prepare for what lies ahead.
Locations for these two tournaments will be decided in the AGM meeting on 19 May and 20 May 2024.
Want to know more about MRISA? You can check out the slides HERE.
IGBIS Sports: It is the New Style
IGBIS will be changing their look with sporting uniforms in the 2024-25 school year. After much deliberation with students and designers, here is our new look:
The concept is that our SS student-athletes will now buy their uniforms, will be able to wear them year after year, and keep them when they leave IGBIS. This uniform will come in a bundled package, including all 3 of the shirts above. The red and black sleeveless shirts will allow us to play as ‘home’ and ‘away’, not wearing the same colours as our competitor. Additionally, the sleeved (under) shirt will allow our athletes to wear sleeves when playing a sport that requires it. The undershirt will have the student's name on it (as opposed to ‘phoenix’).
Our vendor has assured us that we can get the 3-shirt package for under MYR 175… and that is their top line of fabric!
Forms will be coming out soon for the purchase of these uniforms. As we cannot have duplicate numbers, our upperclassmen will place their orders first, and we will work down to MS.
For our ES teams, we are pushing towards one t-shirt-style uniform that can be bought and used for all sports. We are still working on this design and will share it when it is completed.
A huge thanks to Adi and our student-athletes who helped design these uniforms. Your legacy will be on the court for years!
