IGBIS Newsletter : May 2025
May 7, 2025On the day after the end of term, the IGBIS Electric Vehicles in Education (EViE) team returned to the Horizon Beranang Circuit for the second race of the season, this time as defending champions! With new drivers Travis and Isabella at the wheel, and a restructured pit crew made up of Hariz, Nate, Noah, and Lukas, the team was ready to face the heat – both on and off the track. Team management and photography were in the capable hands of Alia and Sharon respectively.
Despite soaring temperatures – 31°C in the shade by 10 a.m. – the team arrived early to assemble the car after its journey from school. Scrutineering was handled with care to avoid penalties, and once passed, the drivers took a walk of the redesigned circuit. With more corners and tighter turns than before, the layout promised a thrilling challenge and an exciting spectacle for the crowd.

Grid positions were based on points scored from the team’s portfolio submission, which included insights into Bufori vehicles, racing line theory, legendary F1 drivers, and the engineering behind the EViE car. Securing first place in the portfolio section gave the team an early psychological edge.
During practice, both drivers took time to familiarise themselves with the circuit – so different from the running track they trained on at school. Isabella showed great speed early on, but wisely opted for a more conservative pace in the race to conserve battery life.

The race strategy was a true team effort. Travis took the first 12 laps with confidence and maintained the lead, followed by a lightning-fast pit stop that handed control to Isabella. She drove with precision, pacing the team evenly with Sri KDU. Lukas oversaw timings and calculations, relaying critical data to Alia, who kept the drivers informed via the pit board.

A tactical battery swap near the end allowed Travis to finish strong using Isabella’s well-conserved battery, crossing the line in first place. Impressively, IGBIS was the only team to avoid any race or pit stop penalties.
Final results:
– Best Portfolio
– Fastest Pit Crew
– Best Race Time
– Race Winner
– Overall Winner
Congratulations to the entire team for a flawless performance, outstanding teamwork, and for bringing the trophy home once again!
