November 10, 2023From the Elementary Principal
By Simon Millward
I always enjoy getting into classes, and this week has been particularly interesting as I have been watching the developing display boards that the Grade 3 students have been working on for their How We Express Ourselves unit of inquiry. They are not quite finished yet, however, I will give you a sneak peek. The creativity and technique to display their learning has been wonderful to see. Next week they will be having some practice sharing times with other classes so they are ready for their sharing with parents on Friday, 10 November 2023.
I also dropped into Mr Nigel’s Grade 2 class this week. The children were so focused on their maths task that you could hear a pin drop. It was wonderful to see such engagement and learning in action.
The Early Years team ‘changed’ their classroom around, and this certainly had the desired effect to inspire their learners to extend their play. They were very keen to share with me what they were doing, especially the rocket.
Finally, I enjoyed talking to the students about their Chinese learning this week. They were busily writing characters about the house in the text they were reading about and relating that back to their previous learning.
Thank you to the parents that attended the coffee morning this week and the Early Years play workshop with Ms Nicola. Although the play workshop was attended by only a few parents, those that I spoke with enjoyed it.
Sports news, our U9 benchballers had a great time at their tournament this week, managing to win a game. Thank you, as always, for the great support from our parents.
On Friday, we hosted the Elementary KLSL swimming gala. 7 schools competed against each other in the pool. It was a great atmosphere, and our student-athletes experienced success in the pool, either finishing on the podium, beating personal best times or competing for the very first time.
Well done to all of our student-athletes and coaches for your commitment and dedication. We are proud of you all.

From the Counselling Team
As we move into November we transition from Authenticity to Boundaries as our monthly topic. To help students understand and learn about boundaries and how important they are, the counselling team will continue to facilitate activities that promote engagement in this topic. Please keep an eye out on our social media account to stay on top of this information.
A reminder that we would love to see parents at our Coffee with the Counsellors session on Friday, 17 November 2023. This session and the work we will be doing with students this month include:
- Types of Boundaries
- Tips for setting boundaries
- How to stop being a people pleaser
- Understanding our own personal space and the personal space of others
- Fears to overcome when setting boundaries
Have a great weekend ahead.
Green Week
By Chaewon Park
The ECO Club made this whole week a blast with a mix of fun activities. On Monday, we had a karaoke session with a harmonious note as students joined in a karaoke event with an eco-friendly twist. Tuesday was all about dressing up and showing off our unique styles with green, blue and recycled materials. Wednesday had us on a scavenger hunt, working together to solve clues with goosechase. Thursday's talent show was a hit, with members showcasing their amazing skills, singing and dancing to raise awareness about environmental Issues. Friday, we got artsy and jazzed up the bulletin boards around the school. The ECO Club's week was amazing, with lots of fun, creativity, and togetherness, making school days a whole lot more exciting!
The SPAC club provided assistance by helping set up instruments and microphones for the karaoke and talent show. From the music room to the Learning Lounge, it was a very long journey, but the SPAC members were extremely passionate and caring enough to make sure this event was a success and an enjoyable one for the IGBIS Secondary Community.
