The IGBIS Sports Scholarship is designed to recognise and support students who demonstrate outstanding talent, passion, and a sustained commitment to competitive sports. This scholarship is for dedicated students who will act as 'Sports Ambassadors' for the school. IGBIS Athletes are expected to display sportsmanship at the highest level, serve as leaders and role models for their teammates, and represent the school with integrity and pride. 

To be considered for the Sports Scholarship, applicants must:

Demonstrate Sports Excellence 

  • Students who apply for a Sports Scholarship must have a record of very high sporting performance in multiple sports.
  • An application for a sports scholarship must include a portfolio that showcases sporting strengths, achievements, and documented history with relevant dates. A strong reference from a coach or Athletic Director is essential. Footage from games and/or a highlight video in multiple sports is highly encouraged.

Maintain Academic Standing

  • Have a reasonably strong academic record with no failing or near-failing grades 

Maintain Holistic Engagement

  • Be thoughtful, well-rounded individuals who have contributed meaningfully to their current school community in Sports and at least one of Academics, Leadership, Service, &/or the Arts.

Demonstrate Support for the Sports Program

  • The recipient of the scholarship will actively serve as a member of the Phoenix Club (sports council). This includes assisting with and/or leading a range of sporting events, camps, and activities for the wider school community.

Exhibit commitment

  • A recipient must be prepared to represent IGBIS in at least three sports in Grades 6 through Grade 11, and at least two sports in Grades 12. This can include any combination of the following sports currently offered at the competitive level:
  • Football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, track & field, badminton, and/or X-country.
  • Additionally, the student will be expected to travel with at least one MRISA team (*this cost will be included in the scholarship package).

Sports Scholarship Application & Selection Process

The selection process is designed to provide a holistic and accurate picture of each applicant’s abilities, character, and potential.

Academic Records
  • Applicants must submit school reports covering at least the past two years, demonstrating a reasonably strong academic record with no failing or near-failing grades.
Sports Portfolio
  • The portfolio needs to showcase sporting strengths, achievements, and documented history with relevant dates. It must include a strong reference from a coach or Athletic Director. Footage from games and/or a highlight video in multiple sports is highly encouraged.
Personal Statement
  • A written statement explaining the applicant’s academic interests, motivation, learning values, and how they hope to contribute to the IGBIS community as a Sports Scholarship Recipient.
Teacher Reference
  • A strong, detailed reference from a current teacher—preferably a core subject teacher—attesting to the applicant’s academic ability, work ethic, character, and potential for further growth.
Interview
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to IGBIS for an interview with academic faculty and/or school leadership to assess the student’s sports disposition, reflective capacity, and readiness to contribute to the broader school community.
