Theatre

Our impressive, purpose-built, 534-seater theatre has a large backstage area that allows students to design and implement sound and lighting into their assemblies and theatre productions with plenty of versatility in staging. The theatre is also used for divisional and school-wide celebrations, frequent occurrences in an international school as diverse as ours in Malaysia!

Visual Art Studios & Performing Arts

IGBIS provides a dynamic, inquiry-driven Pre K-12 arts programme involving Music, Drama and Visual Arts. Throughout the Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes, students are encouraged to explore and experiment across the Arts before choosing their passion and specialising in the final years of MYP and DP. We also offer the Career-related Programme(CP) in collaboration with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) for students wishing to pursue careers within the Art and Design industries.

We have dedicated exhibition, performance and rehearsal spaces including a theatre and full orchestra. Students use a wide variety of resources and technology across the three Arts disciplines.

These include digital media, ceramics, a range of instruments, recording devices, online databases and subscription services amongst others.

Sports & Fitness Facilities

We are very fortunate at IGBIS to have such vast sporting facilities. Spread across multiple levels at the school, our students and staff are able to enjoy a fitness suite which includes cardio as well as pin-loaded and free weight equipment, overlooking our Olympic-sized 50m competition pool. At 8 lanes wide, the pool doubles as a 25m pool for both elementary and secondary PHE swimming lessons. We also have a shallow learners pool with a graded floor to cater for our youngest beginner swimmers and the lower elementary swim classes.

Our indoor sports hall houses the ability to run three full-size basketball courts, three netball courts, three volleyball courts and 12 badminton courts. We have a full-size 400m running track and a full sized astroturf football pitch currently being used both for PHE classes and by Maxim Sports to run football training and Malaysian Club league matches. In the future, we are planning to create a purpose built dance / gymnastic room.

Design Technology & Maker Space

In addition to PYP students being creative in their classrooms, a dedicated design space near the Arts department is a space to imagine, create and test their ideas. Projects often connect to their Unit of Inquiry, but can also stand alone as they explore what it means to be a thinker in the 21st century.

The Secondary School Design Department is located on the 7th floor and consists of two classrooms, a workshop and a textiles workshop. MYP and DP students undertake projects that challenge them to combine technology with more traditional approaches to manufacturing products. Our goal is to develop their “design thinking” and to give them experience working with a range of materials and techniques. Currently we have projects using sewing machines and CNC embroidery, lighting projects using the laser cutter, wooden game design with veneers, and full-scale furniture being made at the DP level. The workshop is also used for Innovation classes where students have the opportunity to develop new skills with open-ended, self-driven projects.

Food services

IGBIS is served by two cafeterias, one for elementary and one for secondary. This allows the school to better cater for the developmental readiness and preferences of different ages. Early Years 1 and Early Years 2 students are served their lunches in their own classrooms.

Students are able to choose from Asian, Western and vegetarian options, as well as sandwiches and gourmet bread options. Breakfast and snacks are also available. Meals are planned in advance to ensure a variety of options. Payment is made electronically so that no cash needs to be carried by the students. With the usage of Vircle, students are able to spend safely with their school card connected to the application, together with parental oversight in giving daily, weekly or monthly allowances to order and select meals. For more information about the Vircle application, feel free to visit their website.

The IGBIS Cafe, located near the Theatre, provides a selection of hot and cold beverages as well as pastries, fresh sandwiches and other hot and cold dishes. Parents and visitors may purchase meals from the cafe using either cash or the cashless system.

Science Lab

The IGBIS science facilities include three labs purpose-built for Biology, Chemistry and Physics, a preparation room and a separate store room for chemicals. We also have a small breakout area for collaborative work. Emergency eye-wash and showers are available in each lab, with a fume hood in the Chemistry lab which enables a wider range of experiments to be carried out or demonstrated. The Science teachers are supported by a full-time Science technician who also supports the learning of the students through his or her knowledge and expertise in this area.

Libraries

IGBIS has dedicated library spaces for Elementary and Secondary students. Both libraries contain an extensive collection of nonfiction, fiction, e-books, and audiobooks. Students, families and staff also have access to databases and online resources through our Destiny Catalogue. The library is open from 7:30am until 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Elementary students and their parents may visit the library before and after school. However, after school all Elementary students need to be supervised by an adult during their visit. Secondary students may visit the library independently throughout the day.

Elementary and EY classes have a 40-minute library lesson once a week. During this time, the Teacher Librarian works on developing information literacy skills, promotes reading for pleasure, supports the curriculum and encourages students to become lifelong readers through reading promotions and events. The Teacher Librarian also works closely with subject/homeroom teachers to ensure the libraries support the IB Units of Inquiry, IB Learner Profiles and the IGBIS mission and vision.
