Wow! What a week it has been, there have been so many fabulous learning experiences for our students that I could write a whole essay on this week. You will be pleased to know I am not!
Our ‘week of play’ launch on Monday was a wonderful example of our whole school ethos. The Secondary grade levels were paired with an Elementary grade level to play with. I was smiling watching the Grade 12 students playing with bubbles, building boats, playing in the sand and much more with our Fireflies and Early Years students. The Grade 11’s were teamed up with our KG students as they played and created with clay. The images below give you a snapshot of what each group was playing with.
To truly immerse ourselves in the experience the Elementary teachers ‘played’ during their usual meeting time. Some teachers played water tube water polo, traditional Malaysian games, board games, ‘hair’ play, dodgeball, lego, on the Nintendo Switch and much more. It was a great way to celebrate and acknowledge the value of play for everyone.
We are also pleased that we had so many families join us at the end of Friday to play in the classes with the students. Play is community.
On Tuesday we also had a small celebration of the Music academy students' first semester of learning either the piano or voice. The students were risk-takers performing in front of other students and parents. The larger concert will happen in April, so look out for more details about that.
To round off our Friday the Grade 5 students entertained us and educated us about their ‘energy’ unit. The students were all scientists tasked with persuading the two scientist organisers of their city, to use their form of energy to power the city.
The energy forms presented were solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear energies. The students spoke confidently and knowledgeably, making it understandable and accessible for our younger learners.
We also had some sports games this week as well with our boys and girls U9 and U11 teams playing. The U11 tournament on Friday held at IGBIS was thrilling with our U11 girls taking the final to extra time and then winning 1-0. The boys were playing in the 3rd/4th playoff game with them eventually finishing. As always this was a great learning experience with some pleasing performances and growth from our teams.
Next week we will have our Lunar New Year assembly. On Thursday, 08 February 2024 at 2:15 pm we will have our dress rehearsal that parents are invited to. As it is the final rehearsal before the actual assembly it may not be a polished performance, but we are happy for you to share in the ‘live’ performance.
From the Counselling Team
It has been a busy week with class lessons, the What's Next parent session and the day of play (just to name a few). Class lessons focussing on the January mental health topic of self-care and self-compassion were received with enthusiasm. This helped give students some personal prompts to show themselves more self-compassion.
Day of play was a great opportunity to make us all feel good. Let’s face it one of the reasons why we play is to have fun. Playing and spending time with little kids is great for the well-being of the big kids. Activities where we come together as a whole school also help to build community.
Student Ambassadors showed their gratitude by making personalised thank you cards for teachers who planned day of play activities. These were presented at the staff briefing. Showing gratitude shows others we care and that they are appreciated.
A reminder that our next Coffee with the Counselors is next Friday, 09 February 2024, at 8:15 am in the PVO room. The topic for February is Healthy Relationships.
Have a great weekend!
Best Regards
The Counselling Team

Terry Fox Run 2024
Hi everyone!
It’s Maloé and Wen Yi, and we are back for the Terry Fox Run 2024!!
We held this run at the beginning of the year, and we will be doing so again on the 16 February 2024 (Friday). This year the run will be a little different as it will be held in the evening from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
For those of you who were not here during the first run. The Terry Fox Run is an event in which you run/walk 3.2 km (8 laps) around the field. All the money that we raise goes to Cancer Research Malaysia, which is a company that is in liaison with the Terry Fox Foundation. At the end of our run last year, we managed to raise RM9,650! This year we are planning to raise the same amount or even more!
To join the run, you have to place a donation. You can donate as much as you want, but if you donate anything over RM35, you will receive a shirt designed by Ryan Reynolds from the Terry Fox Foundation.
Please sign up with this link, and any donation is greatly appreciated.
