Introducing the new IGBIS Community Liaison
We are very pleased to announce that Carol Lau will join our school as the new Community Liaison starting next Monday, 11 March 2024. With over 20 years of extensive work experience and leading teams, we believe she will be a valuable collaborator with the community, especially our parents.
Carol will strengthen home-school connections by facilitating open lines of communication. She will also coordinate all parent-related events and activities, such as presentations, workshops, and social events. Carol will also solidify PVO leadership teams and work with all parents.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Carol as she transitions into being a part of our Odyssey. I know we all are looking forward to working with her.
From the Elementary Principal

I hope you all enjoyed International Day last Saturday. It was great to see so many parents and students in attendance. From a personal perspective, I thought the entertainment was a highlight with a variety of upbeat cultural performances. Congratulations to all of our student and adult performers. I hope you enjoyed performing as much as I enjoyed watching them.
On Thursday, our Grade 3 students shared their learning in assembly. There was a lot to share. As they have been inquiring into body systems in design, they created stop-motion videos explaining the digestive system.
The students also explained how they have been showing their academic integrity as they have been researching. They have been learning about thick and thin questions, seeking treasure in their research sources and most importantly when they find out information, paraphrasing (putting it into their own words). This has been especially important as they have embarked on their own personal inquiries within the unit of inquiry. They had lots of ideas to explore, and they shared some of them.
This is an example of some of the research and sharing.
As the students have been learning about the skeletal system Riku, Yushi and Ariq, devised their own words to the well-known song ‘Dem Bones’ to help them remember the scientific names of the bones and where they are located. Grade 3 sang their version and danced to it as well.
As we had been sitting down for quite some time, we played the game ‘Name that bone’: the audience had to complete a physical challenge to answer the question. Which was a lot of fun.
Our single-subject teachers were also able to share the learning that has been happening in their spaces. The PE department shared the Parkour challenges the students have been engaged in and our ESOL students shared their ‘Show and Tell’ presentations as well.
This was a fantastic sharing opportunity with parents afterwards learning all about what is in store for the upcoming Grade 3 camp (watch this space for photos of that experience).
This week also saw our Elementary students engaged in a track and field competition KLSL on Monday. Our students performed well, and with a bigger team they may have placed higher in the team event, so we look forward to developing the programme even more next year. Congratulations to our students and coaches for their dedication and hard work throughout the season.
