No one could describe this week as being boring! So much has happened whether we are talking about sports, the arts or even experiential learning (camps and field trips).
At the start of the week, everything was focused on the AIMS Track and Field meet that was hosted at IGBIS. Our Elementary students performed extremely well, giving their very best. I was lucky enough to catch the U9 Boys 4x100m relay race at the end of the meet. They ran their hearts out narrowly being beaten into second place. Congratulations to all of our athletes, the coaches who supported them and the whole of the PHE team for making the event a success.
Whilst our athletes were running their hearts out, our Kindergarten students were climbing their hearts out as they visited Camp 5 to challenge themselves and open their minds to new experiences.
On Tuesday, we had our “PYP Arts Festival,” this was a showcase of our students' many talents. It was fantastic to see the variety of visual arts pieces from all of our grade levels.
Our Grade 3 and Grade 4 students performed their student-created plays. They wrote the scripts and music, designed the background and spent hours practising. These were interspersed by wonderful musical performances in groups, pairs and individually all in all it was a wonderful afternoon of visual and performing arts. A huge thank you to Mr Alex, Ms Abi, Ms Elli, Ms Sheena, Ms Ada and all the teachers and associate teachers who helped to make this afternoon a success.
Our Grade 5 students have embarked on their final unit of inquiry all about transitions. This week they spent time in the Secondary school learning all about Grade 6. They have run around school engaging in a “goose chase" and spending the day experiencing life as a grade 6 student, getting to know the grade 6 teachers, partaking in a maths class, a design class, a science class, an English class, a Wellbeing class and getting to field their wonderings about Grade 6 to a current Grade 6 panel of students. All in all the feedback was very positive. A big thanks to all the Grade 6 teachers, Ms MJ the Grade 6 Grade level coordinator, and Ms Rosalinda our MYP Coordinator along with the ES team of Grade 5 teachers and Ms Nicola our PYP coordinator for collaborating on this great experience.
Our Grade 1s enjoyed their trip to the theatre this week as part of their How We Express Ourselves unit of inquiry. They were able to appreciate what it means to put on a performance as well as consider the simplicity of the set and how it can have a positive impact on the audience. I look forward to hearing how they use this experience to influence their own learning.
To round out the week our Grade 4’s headed to camp for three days and two nights. They prepared their own food and cooked it, went to Mountain school where they had to be risk takers trying different low and high rope activities, and Gua Temperang cave. It was challenging, but by the looks of all the photos, the students had a great time. Thank you to the Grade 4 team and all the additional teachers who guided and looked after all of our Grade 4 students.
The MYP Art Exhibition: Celebrating the Work of Visual Arts Students
Calling all parents and teachers! The MYP Art Exhibition opens its doors on Monday, 20 May 2024! We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible creative work of our Grades 6-10 visual arts students. SPARK Club at IGBIS
SPARK is an afterschool club led and organized by Gaeun and Suhani, supervised by Ms Flavia and Ms Hyemin. The goal of SPARK is to Spread Positivity And Random Kindness. For our first project, we organized a Fundraiser Carnival on 02 May 2024. As the current Grade 10s will be going to camp in Indonesia next year, they will be visiting a remote village that needs funds for its infrastructure development and educational resources such as books. We thought it would be a great idea to do this carnival as a way to help raise funds for this cause yet also bring in some fun elements for our students, and we were quite successful raising well over our fundraising goal and achieving RM 1,343!
We had activities ranging all the way from What is in the Box to Pong Ball to the best activity of the season… DUNKING THE TEACHERS!! That is right. Students were able to contribute funds and in turn, dunk their beloved teachers. It was an amazing experience for secondary students all over the years.
The earned funds will also partially go to the ZOMI education centre. The ZOMI education centre is a non-profit education centre that serves to provide basic education to Myanmar kids who seek refuge in Malaysia. We have fostered connections with the community through events such as the Christmas Drive and Service Day in the past years. The funds will be specifically used to purchase daily necessities such as food and teaching materials and to host workshops in collaboration with the centre.
We hope the IGBIS community had fun taking part in this carnival! If anybody would like to contribute any donations please feel free to contact:
